When visiting North Cyprus the first activities are beach related, since this is the dominant part of the island, but what most people don’t know that there is a rich historical background to the Northern Cyprus properties as well.
Here are some examples of what north Cyprus has to offer in terms of ancient monuments and historical sites. The first example is the museum in Lusignan Manor which hosts ancient remains as back as the 12th century BC. This museum is a tribute to local history and is a sit for the whole family to enjoy.
Second example of ancient sites in north Cyprus is the restored Greco-Roman Theater Kourion which
was built in in the 2nd century BC and was used for music and theatre performances.
Kition, an ancient city that was found in excavations dated from 1200BC is another great site to visit. It is a fascinating architectural site consisting of five temples and cyclopean walls constructed out of giant stone blocks.
In Pafos you can visit underground burial site of high officials. These tombs were made out of solid rock and spread over a large area dating back to the 4th century BC.
Another site preserved really well is the Choirokoitia, which is a settlement site. This site has gone through reconstruction but is authentic none the less thanks to the use of same traditional materials and methods of that period.
These ancient Sites are only a few of what North Cyprus has to offer in terms of history.
